Virtual Design Vs. Full Service Interior Design: Which Is Best?

Virtual Interior Design vs. Full Service Interior Design: Which is Best?

So much of our day-to-day lives have moved online, especially as a result of the ongoing pandemic. We can work remotely, have groceries and food delivered, shop, bank, pay bills, take classes, and more — it feels like almost everything can be done online.

That’s why it's no surprise that virtual interior design services have been gaining popularity in recent years. If you’re redesigning your space, why not get expert help from an interior designer, all from the convenience of your home?

Though e-design has many benefits, there are reasons you may want to go with full-service interior design services.

If you have been thinking about hiring an interior designer, but don’t know which option to go with, we’ll be reviewing both e-design and traditional full-service design, so you can see which is best for you.

What Is Virtual Interior Design?

So first, let’s cover what e-design is exactly and how virtual interior design services work at AHG Interiors.

Every interior design firm that offers virtual design services has its own process, but in general, e-design is the process of working with an interior designer completely virtually.

With AHG, you’ll start by booking a video consultation. In the consultation you’ll get to meet with Stefania directly and talk about what you need help with, this could be…

  • Furniture selection and arrangement

  • Floor plans and layout

  • Paint and color schemes

  • Staging, outdoor design, and landscaping

  • Art and accessories

The initial consultation may answer all your questions and point you in the right direction if you want to continue with the project yourself.

If you want Stefania’s team to take the reigns with the project you’ll move forward with AHG Virtual Design services.

You’ll get a dedicated client portal that’ll house everything related to your project. You’ll receive 2D renderings, concept designs, and furniture recommendations for your project. Along with the total cost listed transparently. You can share feedback, and approve or decline items directly in your online portal. The AHG team will then redesign and recommend new pieces as needed.

Once everything is finalized and approved the AHG team will order you’re products and materials and have them delivered to you. It’s as simple as that!

What Are the Benefits of Virtual Design Services?

While each project varies by client some of the benefits of e-design are:

  • Everything is virtual – This may be obvious, but it’s worth noting that if for whatever reason you can’t (or don’t want to) meet your designer in person, then e-design lets you do everything online at your own pace.

  • A more affordable option – Since we don’t come to your home, e-design costs less than full-service design. This is great especially if you want to roll up your sleeves and put in some of the leg work yourself, like sending us measurements and handling delivery and installation.

  • Streamlined process – With everything operating online, the process is easy and simple.

Virtual Design services are perfect if you’re redesigning a room (or multiple rooms) and don’t plan on extensively remodeling your home.

At AHG we have locations in NYC and the Catskills and we serve the surrounding areas, but if you’re located elsewhere you can still work with us virtually!

What Is Full-Service Interior Design?

Traditional full-service interior design offers a more high-end white-glove experience, so the cost of the services reflects that.

At AHG Interiors the process begins with a consultation so we can understand your needs, budget, and what types of services you’re looking for. After the consultation, you’ll receive a proposal that outlines the cost of services.

Full-service design can include:

  • Planning a renovation, including concept designs, renderings, and plans

  • Re-designing a space and selecting materials, finishes, furniture, and decor

  • Execution and Installation of the design plan

  • Styling and staging

Once the proposal is approved, will then manage the project in its entirety from start to finish. This includes visiting your home, taking photos and measurements. We’ll provide concept designs, renderings, and furnishings and materials selection.

Depending on the scope of the project we will help you hire and liaise with other professionals involved in the project like a general contractor or subcontractors. We’ll order all the products and materials for your new space, and manage delivery. We help resolve and handle any unforeseen issues that pop up along the way.

Overall we’ll keep the project organized and running as smoothly, making it as stress-free as possible for you!

What Are the Benefits of Full Service Interior Design?

Full-service interior design is a more comprehensive service than virtual design. Some of the main benefits include:

  • An inclusive luxury experience – We handle all the details, including a trusted network of professionals to execute your project, meaning you don’t have to lift a finger. This is especially helpful if you don’t have time to be involved in the project.

  • In-person interaction – If you want your designer to come to your home, see the space in person, present materials and finish samples in person, then traditional design is the way to go.

  • One go-to contact – You’ll have a dedicated liaison at AHG, even if your project involves multiple professionals. No need to worry about juggling communication or important details getting lost in translation.

  • Less stress – Since we organize and manage the project in its entirety, you don’t have to worry about it!

If you’re planning an extensive remodel, or are short on time and want a skilled team to take care of everything for you, then full-service design is the way to go.
